How to Eat Fried Worms

MPAA Rating:PG
Distributor:New Line Cinema
Director:Bob Doleman
Starring:Luke Benward as Billy, Hallie Kate Eisenberg as Erika and Adam Hicks as Joe.

When Billy moves to a new town, the bully at his new school instantly singles him out. At lunchtime, Billy discovers that Joe, the bully, has filled his lunch-box thermos with wriggling worms. In an attempt to appear unaffected by the worms, Billy lies and brags about how he loves to eat worms. Joe then challenges Billy to eat 10 worms in one day without throwing up. The loser must walk through school with worms in his pants.

Needless to say, How to Eat Fried Worms is filled with gross worm recipes. Worms are fried, boiled and blended, creating disgusting concoctions. The boys in this movie repeatedly disobey their parents to continue their worm-eating festivities. Some adults are portrayed as dumb and clueless.

The overall message is about bravery and friendship. Billy learns to stand up for himself and not judge others—even bullies—too quickly. The message that bullying is wrong is also important.

Some kids (especially girls) may want to steer clear of this movie because of its gross, wormy humor. However, boys may enjoy this adventurous tale that is humorous and innocent overall.
