Arthur and The Invisibles

MPAA Rating:PG
Distributor:The Weinstein Company
Director:Luc Besson
Starring:Freddie Highmore as Arthur, Mia Farrow as Granny; the voices of Madonna as Princess Selenia, Robert De Niro as King and Snoop Dogg as Max.

Ten-year-old Arthur would love to follow in the footsteps of his treasure-hunting grandpa. But since his grandpa disappeared while on a journey, the boy and his grandma can only remember him at their house in the country—while Arthur's parents search for jobs in the city.

Then a real estate developer informs Granny that he plans to destroy her house and turn it into an apartment building. Unless Grandpa can suddenly reappear, sign the papers and come up with payment within 48 hours, she and Arthur will lose their home.

Arthur has a plan. Grandpa buried a treasure somewhere on the grounds, and Arthur is determined to find it. But to find it, he has to find the Minimoys. His grandfather told stories of a kingdom of Minimoys who stand only about as tall as a tooth, and who hold his stash of rubies somewhere in their underground world. Arthur transforms into a Minimoy and is caught up in his quest to save not only his Grandma's house, but also the Minimoys.

Clubhouse readers may be uncomfortable with a story that replaces faith in the true God with magic, spells, curses and gods. Several misuses of God's name are also present and a reference to alcohol and drugs.

Arthur and the Invisibles features lots of celebrities, some great animation and even some worthwhile themes. But in the end, Clubhouse kids may want to be invisible, and stay out of the theaters.
